Project Shadowhawk
A UK-led aerospace initiative exploring next-generation drone technology, sustainable materials and machine-learning design to strengthen national resilience.
Vision & Purpose
Project Nightfall is a UK-led effort to develop drones that operate where humans can’t, supporting defence, emergency response and national resilience. The focus is on reliable, long-endurance aircraft built to handle harsh weather and low-visibility conditions.
Machine Learning & Airframe Development
Nightfall uses machine learning as part of the design process, running thousands of simulated airframe variations to refine aerodynamics and efficiency. This approach speeds up development and produces aircraft shaped by physics, data and real-world performance needs.
Sustainable Materials and Waste Innovation
A core ambition is to explore how UK household and industrial waste can become part of tomorrow’s drones. By repurposing recycled plastics, composite offcuts and advanced bio-materials, Nightfall aims to build lighter, cheaper, more sustainable airframes using British resources.
Civil, Humanitarian & Defence
Nightfall begins with civilian and commercial uses — surveying remote areas, aiding rescue teams, monitoring infrastructure — before expanding into humanitarian support. As the technology matures, the long-term goal is to offer platforms suitable for UK defence and international partners.
